If an alarm sounds, act before arranging service
Leave for outdoor fresh air immediately and call 911 or the fire department from outside. Stay out until emergency responders permit re-entry. Do not remain inside trying to find the source or wait for an online estimate response. These emergency steps come before a routine appointment; this website’s request form is not an emergency response service.
Name the test you are requesting
For a non-emergency enquiry, carbon monoxide testing is too broad a label to define the work. Ask whether the proposed visit includes an ambient measurement, an appliance combustion evaluation, venting examination or another specific task. Confirm the equipment and appliances covered, who performs the work and the written findings supplied. A measurement records conditions during that assessment; it is not a permanent guarantee.
Keep the chimney and appliance scopes connected
A visual chimney inspection, camera examination of the flue and appliance-specific servicing answer different questions. Provide the appliance type, fuel, model where available and any earlier reports so the appropriate scope can be discussed. If separate technicians are needed, ask how their findings and recommendations will be coordinated. Do not assume a sweep or a repair estimate includes every appliance check.
Retain alarms and maintenance records
Routine service does not replace carbon monoxide alarms. Follow the alarm manufacturer’s instructions for placement, testing and replacement. Keep appliance service records, chimney findings and the exact scope of any testing together. When comparing proposals, distinguish the work actually included from work that remains to be arranged, and ask how any unresolved findings will be followed up.
